Brownfield Regeneration in Incheon
Economic restructuring has brought a concept of brownfield development in the disciplines of urban planning and geography. A typical brownfield is an abondoned or unused factory site as new economy no longer make that type of manufacturing profitable. In advanced economy, those sites were abondoned by the owner causing serious local problems such as urban decline. It was especially of issue in such industrial nation as UK. The problem was as much serious as the government had no other option than intervening under the central urban policy known as urban regeneration. Yet in this factory site in Incheon, the property owner is doing what is reported - no indication is found that this is government-led. This seems to be an interesting difference between Korea and western countries. i.e. unlike western industrial cities, Korean brownfield may have not been abondoned so much.
