Social Aspect of Urban Regeneration




Korean planning has indulged into area-based clearance renewal for the past three decades. Housing and physical improvement were main impetus of this property-led urban regeneration. There is little information on people who live in these renewal areas. Planners thus have done their renewal project without knowing how these people would be affected by their actions in the name of public welfare. There is a high possibility that poor people live in renewal areas, in other words, renewal areas are likely a spatial concentration of poevery. In this perspectives, physical decay may simply be a spatial expression of poverty. For scrap purpose, a recent study on poor people by Korea Institute for Health and Sical Affairs.
